According to the Washington Post, up until three years ago Darren Wilson worked for the Jennings Police Department, located not far from from the city of Ferguson. The Jennings police department was also made up of mostly white officers, who were supposed to be protecting and serving a mostly black community. Instead, there were so many problems between the police and residents of the town, that the entire 45 person police force was fired. Wilson was one of the officers who lost his job, when the Jennings police force was disbanded.
The city of Jennings has a population of only 14,000 residents, 89 percent of those citizens are black. The racial make-up of the city’s police force, on the other hand, was something like 43 white officers to two black officers. Much like Ferguson, the poverty rate is high and full time employment is scarce. Rodney Epps, one of the Jennings city council members who voted to disband the entire police force, told the Washington Post that the city was plagued racial tension.
“The straw that broke the camel’s back, an officer shot at a female. She was stopped for a traffic violation. She had a child in the back [of the] car and was probably worried about getting locked up. And this officer chased her down Highway 70, past city limits, and took a shot at her. Just ridiculous,”
Epps said during an interview, published on August 23.
After a string of lawsuits over unnecessary force, including accusations of police beating and attacking residents without cause, along with federal and state investigations that revealed fraud and corruption inside the Jennings police department, the city council realized that the entire force was a liability, instead of an asset.
The council voted 6-1 to shut down the Jennings police department, fire all 45 officers who belonged to it, and start over.
While there are no specific reports about Darren Wilson at this time, Lt. Jeff Fuestang, who was appointed to run the city’s new police department described conditions in Jennings at the time the that Wilson was fired:
“There was a disconnect between the community and the police department. There were just too many instances of police tactics which put the credibility of the police department in jeopardy. Complaints against officers. There was a communication breakdown between the police and the community. There were allegations involving use of force that raised questions.”
So much for that spotless record. Darren Wilson, along with 44 other cops, was fired because of serious misconduct, excessive force and rampant corruption. Why is that not on his record?
I grew up in St Louis after our family moved there from England. The racial segregation is really bad. Many white people in St Louis (especially in STL County) are truly racist and bigoted.
So admittedly, I don’t think about Ren’s route too much. It’s not that I don’t like RenAo, it’s just not my favorite. I found Ren’s bad ending to be pretty disturbing, of course, but never really formed any extensive headcanons about it.
Being eaten and brutally raped by a piece of yourself is pretty fucked up. I was just kinda like *nervous thumbs up* “N-nice~” and moved on.
But shit… shit… this idea makes Ren’s ending so much worse. Especially because Ren loves Aoba in such a deeply intense, personal way that none of the other boyfriends can replicate.
So yeah… after Aoba accidentally broke Ren’s mind… I like to think that he ate Aoba repeatedly over and over and over. What passed like minutes to the people outside of Scrap was like an eternity to Aoba and Ren. It just kept going on and on….
The rape. The mutilation. Aoba screaming. Ren devouring him. Until Aoba was gone; his mind couldn’t recover any longer.
Ren had consumed him completely.
‘Aoba’ suddenly opens his eyes and he is snarling and flailing around like a wild animal. Everyone (the Dick Squad) assumes something went terribly wrong in Aoba’s mind. Koujaku would take him away while the rest of the team would go on to defeat Toue.
I can see ‘Aoba’ being admitted to a psyche ward. He doesn’t speak. He only snarls like a beast, gnashing his teeth at anyone who comes near.
As time goes by, ‘Aoba’ begins to heal. He isn’t so rabid, but he seems confused. He doesn’t answer to the name ‘Aoba’. Instead, he looks around wildly, trying to see where this ‘Aoba’ person is. It upsets him to be called ‘Aoba’. He knows he is not ‘Aoba’.
Why do people keep calling him ‘Aoba’?
Where is ‘Aoba’?
The first time ‘Aoba’ sees his own reflection, he relapses mentally. He reverts back into a feral mess, screaming and wailing. He knows this isn’t the reflection he should be seeing.
Where is ‘Aoba’?!
Where did he go?!
Eventually, ‘Aoba’ gets released. So much is a blur, but he is deemed stable enough to be let go. As far as everyone assumes, Aoba failed in Scrap and broke his own mind. By some miracle, he was able to recover.
Imagine now that Koujaku takes it upon himself to aid ‘Aoba’ in his recovery. He insists that ‘Aoba’ stay with him. He helps ‘Aoba’ eat, bathe, dress— everything.
Things get a bit better. ‘Aoba’ starts to smile some times. He comes to enjoy the wind on his face. His tongue lolls a bit when Koujaku ruffles his hair. Even though nothing makes sense, ‘Aoba’ starts to find happiness.
He and Koujaku even start to deepen their friendship into something more. The feelings ‘Aoba’ begins to have for Koujaku are familiar.
Deep, all-consuming love.
Yet every time Koujaku calls him ‘Aoba’, the person in ‘Aoba’s’ body gets upset. He knows he isn’t ‘Aoba’… and yet he is somehow?
Where is ‘Aoba’?!?!
One day, when ‘Aoba’ gets upset at being called by his name, Koujaku wrings his hands in exasperation and cries,
“If you are not Aoba, then who are you?! Tell me!”
And it just comes out: “I AM REN.”
With that, Ren remembers everything. He is flooded with the memories of an eternity spent brutalizing the person most precious to him. He understands now why Aoba’s reflection meets him in the mirror.
Aoba is gone.
Ren destroyed him in the most horrific way possible.
I think Ren would run away then.
You can assume the rest.

SLAAAAY TORONTO IM SO PROUD OF THIS
Belated Waystray Saturday stuff!
Birdy redesign! She’s a bit over 1 foot in length (about the size of a small peregrine) and a hunting bird-thing. Waystray universe birds tend to have raptor-like features like teeth, lizard-like feathered tail, scaled patches of skin or finger-like appendages on their wings. Birdy, being built for speed and precision, leans more towards bird features.
Devon keeps Birdy mostly for company, but she is also well trained and helps him pick out shiny bits from other peoples houses. Devon, being all about speed himself, has picked one of the faster breeds of bird-thing he could find and has been keeping and training them over a few generations. Devon fears losing his birds at least a little more than he should and refuses to use them for hunting purposes. They’re only buddies (and thieves, his greed surpasses his fear here…)
Otherwise, mostly working on more background and world building still - specifically the evolution of language, this week. Difficult because we’re taking into account tens of thousands of years of history and language honestly evolves pretty darn quickly on that sort of scale.
